Violet's origional inflation concept
featuring unused inflation concept from the 05 remake

During the shooting of Willy wonka and the chocolate factory, Violet's blueberry sequence was surprisingly one of the last things they filmed in the movie. The original idea was just like the first Violet inflation, in which Anna Sophia Robb was to be filmed on set blowing up. They used a rubber inflatable suit covered with grey sweats to simulate Violet blowing up. Unlike Nickerson, Anna Sophia actually loved when she was strapped into the suit and inflated. In a behind the scenes look, she said "it's really fun to blow up. Just get all blue faced and (hahah)." Neil Scanlan, the animatronics and prosthetics manager, said that Violet's beginning inflation was in a special suit that blew up in different places. Her midsection would blow up, followed by her full body inflating. He also showed a maquette, which illustrated how large Violet was going to be, and It looked like they wanted to keep most of it away from CGI. After the whole sequence was shot and Tim Burton was cutting, a decision was made to scrap the original inflation. Tim didn't like the inflation, believing it was too unrealistic. He then decided to turn to CG to inflate violet.
